The Sonoma-Marin Cattlewomen

Promoting the beef industry since 1958

Our Mission Statement: Our CATTLEWOMEN aim is high, but we must never deviate from it: To promote beef everyday; To improve public relations every moment; To assist our cattlemen with the problems whenever and wherever we can; To double out membership by inviting those interested in our work to join us; And not only talk about our troubles, but do something about them by supporting our committee recommendations actively.

The California Cattlewomen Creed

Believing that the livestock industry is of basic importance to world existence. We the California Cattlewomen, dedicate ourselves to support it with our labor and finances, to promote it through information and publicity, to encourage its producers with our understanding and love, to do all in our power to instill in the coming generation the love of the land and of life, the humility and awe before nature and the hope and faith in the future that is inherent in cattlemen and cattlewomen.

Joan Tunzi

July 9, 1939 - July 7, 2025

Its with our heartfelt sarrow that we have to let you know of the passing of our long time 40+ years Sonoma- Marin Cattlewomen, Joan Tunzi, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many. Joan was a beacon of light, a true embodiment of kindness and compassion. Her ability to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable was unparalleled, and her impact on our community will be felt for generations to come

I first met Joan through the Sonoma-Marin Cattlewomen, where her warmth and genuine nature immediately stood out. Our fondest memory of Joan was witnessing her receive the Cowbelle of the Year award in 2008, a testament to her dedication and passion for our organization. Joan had this incredible ability to light up even the darkest of rooms with her presence, always ready with a friendly face and open arms.

Joan's love for life was evident in everything she did. She was passionate about hosting holidays and gatherings, spending precious time with her family, and baking delicious treats. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, attending countless sports games and activities of her five children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Joan's commitment to her community was equally impressive, as she volunteered at the Sonoma Marin Fair for over 40 years and was an active member of the Swiss Italian Club.

Joan's generosity knew no bounds. She opened her home to fellow Cattlewomen, hosting gatherings in her party room and welcoming newcomers with open arms. I remember my first visit to her home, feeling nervous about meeting new people. Joan immediately put me at ease, offering drinks and food as if we had known each other for years. Her ability to make others feel comfortable and valued was truly a gift.

Joan's legacy extends far beyond her accomplishments. She leaves behind a loving family, including her husband of 67 years, Jim Tunzi, her sister Judy Gilmore, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her impact on their lives and the lives of countless others in our community will continue to ripple outward for years to come.

As we bid farewell to Joan, let us take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary woman she was. Her presence in this world was truly rare, and we are all better for having known her. May we carry on her legacy by striving to be beacons of light in challenging times and maintaining a friendly demeanor in all settings. Regardless of our circumstances, let us aspire to embody the kindness and compassion that Joan exemplified throughout her life. We will deeply miss Joan, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
